LICENSING
As the governing and regulatory body for horseracing, one of the BHA’s most important roles is the licensing of all participants.
The Licensing team administers the licensing process for professional trainers, permit holders, full jockeys, apprentices, conditionals and amateur riders.
It also licenses jockeys’ valets and riders’ agents, as well as registering over 7000 stable staff and issuing racecourse stable passes.
The decision of whether or not to grant a licence (or registration as an Owner) rests with the Licensing Committee, to ensure that all applications are considered fairly and thoroughly and meet strict criteria designed to further protect the integrity of the sport.
You can see the dates for Licensing Committee meetings in 2010. Please note applicants attend these meetings only by invitation.
New Guidelines
During the course of 2010 new guidelines are being introduced detailing the new suitability criteria for all licence applications and owner registrations.
The first of these new guidelines were applied to trainers renewing for the licence period from 1st February 2010 and have subsequently been introduced from 18th March 2010 for all Professional Jockeys including Apprentices and Conditionals.
All of the above application forms are available for download in the Licences section of the Resource Centre and the relevant guidelines should be read carefully before any attempt is made to complete the applications.
Should you have any queries relating to the new guidelines, or in regards to licence applications in general, please contact the Licensing team on 0207 152 0140*, or email licensing@britishhorseracing.com.
*Calls to and from the Licensing team are recorded.
